Kutina-Smirnov medal

Mobirise

2023 Prof Reimar Seltmann
Professor Seltmann was awarded the Kutina-Smirnov medal in 2023 in recognition of his significant research portfolio in Central Asia and his long-term contributions to IAGOD.
Prof Seltmann is employed at the Natural History Museum, London, where he has been leading The Centre for Russian and Central EurAsian Mineral Studies (CERCAMS) that has been critical for the understanding of the geodynamics of Central Asia, as well as capacity development of academic institutions in these nations.

Mobirise

2023 Dr Richard Sillitoe
Dr Sillitoe was presented with the Kutina-Smirnov medal in 2023 for his extensive research into porphyry copper deposits and long-time support of IAGOD.

Mobirise

2018 Prof Miroslav Štemprok
Professor Štemprok received the Kutina-Smirnov medal in 2018. He was a founding member, secretary general and honorary life memeber of IAGOD.
Prof Štemprok was professor at Charles University in Prague, where he pioneered the understanding of Sn, W and Mo in silicate melts and hydrothermal fluids. He was president of the Czech Geological Society (1990-1994), served on the board of directors of the Geologische Vereinigung (1992-1996) and was president of the Czech national geological commission (1996-2000).

2018 Prof Nigel Cook

Mobirise

2018 Prof Jingwen Mao
Professor Mao was awarded the Kutina–Smirnov Medal in 2018. He pioneered an intra-plate mineralization–tectonic model for the large-scale Yanshanian ore-forming events in eastern China; this model has advanced metallogenic theory and directly guided successful mineral exploration. Professor Mao is a distinguished Chinese geologist and mineral-deposit specialist, and currently serves as a senior researcher at the Institute of Mineral Resources, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and a professor at the China University of Geosciences (Beijing). He was elected a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2017 and served as President of the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD) from 2012 to 2016.

Mobirise

2018 Dr Michel Cuney
Dr Cuney was awarded the Kutina-Smirnov medal in 2018 for his long term commitment to IAGOD and leading research on uranium ores.
Dr Cuney is a leading expert in the fractionation and mineralization of uranium, and he has been working in close collaboration with the Atomic Energy Commission of France. His research into U fractionation mechanisms in the continental lithosphere led to novel understanding of the genesis of U deposits.

Mobirise

2014 Prof Richard Goldfarb
Professor Goldfarb received the Kutina-Smirnov medal in 2014. He is a leading researcher of the geology of gold deposits and has worked for more than 30 years at the US Geological Survey. Prof Goldfarb is a Distinguished Professor at the China University of Geosciences and a Research Professor at the Colorado School of Mines. He is former President of the Society of Economic Geologists.

Mobirise

2014 Dr Franco Pirajno
Dr Pirajno was awarded the Kutina-Smirnov medal to honour his service as chief editor of Ore Geology Reviews from 2012. During his tenure, the journal rose to become the most highly cited journal within the field of economic geology.
Dr Pirajno is a leading expert in mineral systems and their tectonic controls. He has over 45 years of experience in industry, academia and government.
